The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    SRRT Action Council meeting coming up - All SRRT members are welcome and encouraged to attend!

    Hi all,

    At next week's SRRT Action Council meeting (Wed., Feb. 12), we will be hosting the three     candidates running for ALA President (2026-2027): Andrea Jamison, Maria McCauley, and Lindsay Cronk. We will hear from each of them, with time for Q&A after.

    Our guests are on a tight schedule. Out of respect for their time, they will speak at the beginning of our meeting.

    This meeting will be jam-packed and short on time, so please email me any questions you have for the candidates (orhysb+ALA@gmail.com), or submit them via this Google Form, ASAP by end of day Monday, Feb. 10.

    Questions will be compiled and shared with all three candidates in advance, and I will pose the same questions to all three candidates during the Q&A portion. We'll cover as much as time allows, and if there's any time remaining, the floor will be opened to additional attendee questions.

    Here (and below) is a link to the agenda, and below is the Zoom info for the SRRT Action Council meeting, scheduled for next Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 1:30 PM Atlantic / 12:30 PM Eastern / 11:30 AM Central / 10:30 AM Mountain / 9:30 AM Pacific. (See the end of this message for a listing of the expected schedule for upcoming meetings, through June 2025.)

    I know this is a bit different from the usual meeting reminder/call for agenda items! Our meeting will already almost certainly take the full hour & a half, and I need to leave promptly by 2 PM Eastern. If you have pressing new business to be addressed, outside of your regular report, let me know and it can be added to the agenda if time allows.
