The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

  • 1.  Discussion on US Immigration history, politics, and resistancce

There will be a discussion on immigration from a Marxist perspective on Sunday, April 6 at 4pm-5:30pm on zoom.
We are witnessing the growth of fascism before our eyes, and one important aspect is mass deportations. Both working class migrants, students and academics are being grabbed up, for their political opinions or just their nationality. But mass deportations are actually nothing new. We suggest this good summary history
https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/12/29/mass-deportation-immigration-history-00195729. In addition we could read the latest multiracial unity blog article which discusses the case of Mahmoud Khalil and the ideology of the Columbia movement. https://multiracialunity.org/2025/03/16/mahmoud-khalil-and-the-deportation-nation/
Let's talk about how racism and xenophobia enable fascism, what kind of movement is needed to fight back and how nationalism weakens that movement.  Feel free to invite friends.  Karyn
