The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

Call for Panelist-Participants: Discussing Library Advocacy @ ALA Annual

Hello SRRT friends - hope your week is going well!

Will you be attending ALA Annual in Philly this year? If so, I'd like to invite you to join me for a discussion on library advocacy!

I'll be hosting/facilitating this casual conversation as a way for attendees to share and connect over our experiences advocating in support of libraries. I'd love to have another 4 or 5 SRRT members join me as panelist-participants to discuss your own forays into library advocacy: what motivates you (and what refuels you), hurdles you've overcome, victories you've celebrated (including unexpected wins!), and more. As panelists, we'll kick off the conversation, but again, I anticipate this being an informal discussion with lots of attendee participation, so we can lift each other up, commiserate over shared woes, and most of all, learn from one another's experiences doing this work.

This session will take place on Saturday, June 28 at 10:30 AM Eastern, and is included in the conference program as one of the ALA President & Chair Programs.

If this sounds interesting to you, please let me know before the end of the day Wed., April 9!!  Email me off-list at: orhysb+ALA@gmail.com (if you respond to this thread, I may miss your message, so please be sure to email me!)

I'll arrange a Zoom meeting with interested participants shortly thereafter, so we can discuss a game plan and other details.

Thanks for considering, and I hope to hear from you soon!

    Olivia
