The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

Our county librarian announced at a recent commission meeting that we're going to be piloting Open+ as a way to open some of our branches on Sundays. I have some concerns about the service and its exclusions and would like others' input and feedback. Has anyone in this group used or known others who have used this technology? Please reach out here or via direct email: rosekindness@gmail.com. Thanks, Rachel Rosekind

I'm not familiar with Open+, but I have some concerns myself. In addition to safety and job security concerns, I'm concern about inventory protection. I live in a community with a very strong and vocal anti-library group. They've already successfully got library funding cut in half due to LGBTQ and sexual health items in the collection. I could see them making a group effort to come in and "clean" the collection to their liking.

Thanks, April. I really appreciate your insight, as it is yet another angle I'd not yet considered but compounds my concern about the service.
