The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

Renee Tanner posted something to the main ALA group that we shouldn't sleep on:

    Dear ALA Members,

The ALA Working Group for the Interpretation of the Core Value of Equity seeks your input on the draft interpretation. For background, the interpretations are written from the perspective of library workers as the individuals applying the Core Values. The interpretations are also meant to be brief, so about two pages. The language is also meant to be easily understood. The feedback form for the draft document presents each paragraph individually followed by a comment box. The form also includes a link to the draft, so it can be read as a complete document.

The deadline for comment is Friday, December 12, 2025.
    Thank you,
Rene Tanner (co-chair with Sandra Farag)

Thank you, Rory, for boosting this. I agree that it is an important opportunity for SRRT members - and all ALA members - to build institutional knowledge and muscle around the practice of equity, not just the principle. Thanks!
