The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

ALA Medal of Excellence – application is now open.

I am sharing an exciting opportunity to recognize and nominate an outstanding library advocate who exemplifies creative leadership of high order. Please help spread the word!

I am pleased to announce that the application is now open to nominate an individual who shows leadership in library management, library training, cataloging and classification, and librarianship techniques.

The ALA Medal of Excellence is a prestigious annual award, symbolized by a bronze medal and a 24k gold-framed citation of achievement. It recognizes recent creative leadership of high order, particularly in library management, library training, cataloging and classification, and the tools and techniques of librarianship.

In a significant move in 2020, the award was renamed from the Melvil Dewey Medal to the more inclusive and representative ALA Medal of Excellence.

The deadline for this prestigious award is fast approaching on March 1, 2025. We encourage you to fill out the online application at your earliest convenience.

For more information, please get in touch with Marsha Burgess at Awards@ALA.org or me at saraedallas@gmail.com.
