Hi All,
Amplifying the FAQ page posted this morning by ALA's Public Policy and Advocacy Office in response to the recent White House Executive Order targeting the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) along with a slate of other agencies. This resource also highlights action items that library supports can take right now to elevate the critical role of IMLS for our library landscape. You can expect more stories, action alerts, and continued social media pushes from ALA to continue building support and advocacy.
As a call to action, I'm sharing a few ways that ALA is asking our library community to make their voices heard:
Furthermore, as a member group that works in collaboration with the Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services in several capacities, these federal government cuts to IMLS will prevent us from living out our work and mission to center social justice.
ODLOS Mission:
The ALA Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services supports library and information science workers in creating responsible and all-inclusive spaces that serve and represent the entire community. To accomplish this, we decenter power and privilege by facilitating conversations around access and identity as they impact the profession and those we serve. We use a social justice framework to inform library and information science workers' development of resources. We strive to create an association culture where these concerns are incorporated into everybody's everyday work.
Thank you for the work you do and for the work we have yet to do.
