The stated rationale for forcing all ALA roundtables into the same officer election mold
( saving monety and staff time, few candidates, little interest) makes no sense. In actuality, round table members vote in higher percentage rates than the ALA membership at large(see 2025 ballot below).
The change to " uniform" titles mainly effects one of the largest Roundtables - SRRT. I was a founder and first official Coordinator of SRRT. The bylaws, brilliantly written by the late Hugh Atkinson, purposefully set up an "Action Council" rather than traditional officers. Whether or not one agrees with all SRRT actions, it has to be acknowledged that SRRT and it's task forces are highly active and effective units of ALA
It does not take an extensive study to see just how little in resources will be saved by forcing SRRT to change its structure. But the consequences to SRRT will be significant.
