The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

Thought the below might be of interest to the SRRT community - It is part of the Expanding Information Access for Incarcerated People grant project.

The 2026 Expanding Services Together cohort is an upcoming learning opportunity for early career library and information workers, Library and Information Science (LIS) students, and members of community-based projects. Cohort members will develop professional skills related to library services for people who are or have been incarcerated.

The cohort is structured like an intensive project-based LIS course, with a rich reading/materials syllabus, guest speakers, and group discussions. Cohort members will create proposals for services over the cohort period. Cohort members will meet virtually six times between August and December 2026 and will engage in small-group discussion and collaborations throughout that time.

The cohort will be composed of approximately 20 members.

Click here for more information about the cohort, including how to submit an interest application.

The due date for this first step in the application process is February 9, 2026.
