The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

One idea that came out of last week's Afternoon of Social Justice event was for SRRT to create bibliographies on various topics and host them on the SRRT website. Possible topics include History of Race and Libraries, Racial Justice, Libraries and Social Activism, and more. We also discussed creating toolkits for different libraries to use. Before I send out a call for volunteers on Connect, I wanted to see what Action Council thought of the ideas.

I like the idea! I think bibliographies could be really useful for a variety of people.

They all sound like great ideas, I'm curious about the others. What would the toolkit for libraries include?

Not sure yet. I imagine it would depend on the toolkit. For example, if we did a homelessness one, it would probably contain links to services as well as links to rights that homeless have. I think for each toolkit we do, we will want to pull in experts to help build them and to review them.
