SRRT (Social Responsibilities Round Table)

The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Greetings,

I watched the recording of the last SRRT meeting just now and caught Al's report on what's happening with Jenny Rogers' work at the ALA Archives. He said that we are in need of digging up SRRT resolutions from the period of 2001 to 2007 that weren't saved in the archive. That pains me a bit because that's the period that I was involved with Action Council. I remember putting some SRRT Resolutions into the Library Juice newsletter during that time, and I found a couple of them:

    http://libr.org/juice/issues/vol5/LJ_5.4.html#5

    http://libr.org/juice/issues/vol5/LJ_5.5.html#13

I hope that helps, and I'm sorry I wasn't able to find more....

    Thanks Rory,

All of the resolutions in your first newsletter are already in the SRRT resolution archive. See https://www.ala.org/rt/srrt/resolutionsarchive

However, your second newsletter has the SRRT Resolution on Libraries in a time of war and emergency, and that one is not there yet!

And here is a follow-up on what is happening with the 2000s period searching. The ALA Archives does have the records, but they have not been processed. However, our GA has gone through the unprocessed materials and pulled out the relevant resolutions. They should be added to the archive in the near future.

I've added the resolution on War & Emergency to the Archive. Do either of you know what happened to it so I can fill in those details?

    Thanks!

Thank you for this, it is very interesting.  I am not a very involved member of this roundtable beyond paying dues and pondering big pictures.  I appreciate so much the historical context the resolutions provide for one aspect of SRRT's work.
