The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    All –

I was in a webinar or meeting earlier this year and someone had posted a list of problematic Library of Congress Subject Headings and possible inclusive alternatives. I swore I bookmarked it, but alas, I can't find it. If you know of something similar, I would greatly appreciate it if you'd send it to me.

    Thanks much!

    Hi April,
I'm guessing this isn't the resource that you saw, as it's pretty new, but the Oregon Library Association Technical Services Roundtable has been working on a Critical Cataloging Repository of problematic or questionable subject headings and suggested alternatives. This is intended for Oregon libraries to share information and to gain some consensus or at least find out what other libraries are doing. Hope that's helpful. I'd be interested if others have seen similar resources.

    Hi April,

I also suspect this isn't the same thing you saw before, but the Cataloging Lab website might be helpful? https://cataloginglab.org/

Thanks Rachel! There's a specific page on the Cataloging Lab set up for "Problem LCSH": https://cataloginglab.org/problem-lcsh/  Please note that this is a crowdsourced list, and thus the terminology listed there may not reflect a consensus viewpoint. I encourage people to add their "problem LCSH" to the list at that page!
