The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Dear Friends,

    Please tune-in to No Alibis this Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 9:00 -- 11:00 am PST.

    Following the news at 9:30, Professor Danilo Araña Arao will join us from the Philippines to talk about independent media in the Philippines, Nobel Peace Prize for Maria Ressa, the 2022 Philippine elections and what all these portend.

    Danny Arao, is an associate professor at the Department of Journalism, College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman. He is the editor of Media Asia. He was editor-in-chief (1994-1999) and head of research (2000-2001) of IBON Foundation, an independent research think-tank. He writes a weekly column in Filipino ("Konteksto") for Pinoy Weekly (a print and online publication). His weekly column is cross-posted in Bulatlat Multimedia (an online news magazine) where he also serves as associate editor. He is also board secretary of Kodao Productions (a multimedia group) and board chair of Alipato Media Center (publisher of Bulatlat Multimedia).

    In the second hour, Alison Macrina will join us to talk about Abolition Library Association an organization that she started with a Call to Action.

    Alison Macrina is a librarian, internet activist, and founder and director of Library Freedom project. Alison is passionate about fighting surveillance and connecting privacy issues to other struggles for justice and an analysis of power.  She is the co-author of Anonymity, the first book in the American Library Association's Library Futures Series.
