SRRT (Social Responsibilities Round Table)

The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

In the January 2021 issue's "From the SRRT Coordinator" column, we erroneously referred to Herb Biblo as "the first minority to serve as ALA Treasurer." While Mr. Biblo was of Jewish descent, and while Jews are a minority in the United States, the intention behind the word "minority" is to highlight those in our social circles who are from historically underrepresented groups, including Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC). We are correcting that statement to reflect this intention.
