SRRT (Social Responsibilities Round Table)

The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Hey April!

    Can you please add an agenda item to discuss disability discrimination? I will be in attendance and would love to discuss ways to combat this on a broad scale. I would love to lead a brief discussion about this to get us all thinking of a more formal resolution to condemn disability discrimination in the library workforce and ableism, similar to the ways in which SRRT has formally condemned white supremacy.

    Thank you.  I'm on Eastern Standard Time so that would be 1PM for me.  That is also in the middle of the school day and I'm usually teaching a class at that time.

    I'd love to work on a draft for this. I have a super busy week with a job interview and my mom is also in the hospital right now. Would it be OK if I got the draft to you by Monday morning? I want to write the draft Thursday and then give my Librarians Unite For Equal Rights advisors who are all disability activists the weekend to review it too. Let me know what you think.     Hey! That actually sounds like a better plan now that you mention it. Then it will be a more thoughtfully written and crafted draft which then other SRRT members can comment on and we can finalize it then by the summer hopefully. :) Perhaps at the next meeting on the 30th I can at least introduce myself and then just let people know I'm working on the draft in case anyone wants to message / email me with any thoughts or concerns about what should be included in the draft?  Thank you so much April!
