The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

  • 1.  Well Wishes to Briana Jarnagin!

Please join ODLOS in saying a bittersweet goodbye and a huge thank you to Briana Jarnagin who will be leaving ALA as of Friday, November 6, 2020 to focus on her MS in Higher Education Administration and Policy at Northwestern University.

Briana joined ALA in 2017 as the Member Services Assistant for ODLOS and was promoted last year to the Program Coordinator, Community Engagement. During her tenure, Briana implemented numerous programs and initiatives to better engage the Spectrum community and our round table members. She successfully piloted and launched a networking directory for Spectrum Scholars, has supported our member Advisory Board in hosting bi-monthly twitter chats, created an interview guide to assist scholars in networking with one another through monthly blog posts, and has executed multiple virtual events both pre-and during-COVID to encourage cohort and alumni community-building. She brought numerous round tables into use of the ALA Volunteer Form to streamline and improve member engagement through the appointments process and supported major round table rebranding and bylaws changes along with a portfolio of nine book and professional awards. She was also a member of the facilitation team for ODLOS' continuing education offerings, including EDICon and individual workshops.

Briana has been a wonderfully resourceful, supportive, responsive, and inspiring colleague. We will miss her greatly and wish her all the best on her next steps!
