The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    **Please excuse cross-posting.**

    Good afternoon,

I am conducting a research study (CUNY IRB # 2019-1047) to explore how librarians act as boundary spanners in their roles in academic, public, school, and special libraries.  For the purpose of this research, boundary spanning includes acting as a bridge or facilitator between two or more groups (i.e. school and community group, public library and homeless shelter, academic library and academic advising department, etc.).  A key component of this bridge/facilitator role is brokering and sharing information, a function for which librarians should be uniquely qualified, although there is scant literature on librarians acting in boundary spanning roles.

If you have a specific situation or scenario in which you acted in a boundary spanning role in your position as a librarian in any setting, and would be interested in sharing your narrative for this study, please contact me directly at vterrile@qcc.cuny.edu

Please note that participation in this project is voluntary; there will be no compensation for participation.

Please also feel free to pass this request along to others in your circle who may be interested.

    Thank you!
