The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Dear SRRT  members,

OLOS (Office of Literacy and Outreach Services) has requested names for 3 SRRT liaison positions: SRRT representative to the ALA Legislative Assembly, Planning and Budget Committee, and Freedom to Read Foundation.  If anyone would like to volunteer for any of these previously publicized via SRRTAC-L representative positions  (see below), please let me know. You would be considered an ex-officio member of Action Council for the year you serve. The main requirements for   stepping into representative shoes are: 1) going to the  affiliate/liaison groups's meeting(s)  at Annual and Midwinter conference, 2) ideally reporting back to an Action Council meeting during conference or at least Emailing a report to the sRRT coordinator to refer to during Action Council meetings, and 3) joining the SRRT AC listserv and liaison group's listserv for the year in order to keep Action Council in the loop about the liaison group's dealings . We need folks to represent SRRT in several ALA bodies and advocate for our mission to foster social responsibility in the profession. Please let me know if you are interested in any of these appointments.
