The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

Hello! Hope you are all feeling fine fettle and having a good start to the week.

My name is Marian and I am a second year MLIS student looking to learn and push the varieties of  learning in libraries. To that end, I am hoping to survey librarians who are involved with the Collections Development and/or Acquisitions within their various settings.

As I am learning, "continuous evaluation and deselection is important for the health of a collection and its usability. While librarians overwhelmingly agree on this in theory, there are often significant differences on how they approach (or avoid) this in practice." Given the current highlighting of EDI in all spheres of the LIS, I am hoping to shed light on the importance of collections cultivation in moving from words to action in EDI initiatives.

Please help by agreeing to answer a few questions, via email! If interested please message me here or at mariane3 at illinois dot edu.

    My best regards,
    Marian

PS. I've selected to send this request through the CJCLS as I am particularly interested in information access and libraries within this school communities. And the SRRT because I've seen and learned from many of the conversations going on in that forum.
