Larry Neal is the director of the Clinton-Macomb Public Library, a state-of-the-art district library serving 180,000 residents in suburban Detroit. He has 43 years of public library experience, holds a BA in Spanish and German and an MBA from Oakland University as well as an MSI-LIS from the UMSI. He is currently the ALA Treasurer (2025-28), a Washington Office Policy Corps Fellow, a past president of the Michigan Library Association, a past president of the Public Library Association, and a Library Journal Mover & Shaker. In 2011 he helped restore library services for his home city of Bloomfield Hills through three millage campaigns in three years and a successful renewal in 2014. In 2017 he developed two massive open online courses (MOOCs) on public library management as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI). He has been part of seven library construction projects, overseeing three as director.
