I also would like a whereas to mention restrooms on meeting room/ballroom floors of conference headquarter hotels. I realize we have contracts well into the future, but we should be able to get accommodation from these large conference headquarter hotels. ------------------------------ Christine Hage ...

Susan, thanks for sharing your presentation. I have two questions. If ALA sells 50 E Huron, will/could the proceeds from that sale be used to balance the operating budget? I would strongly object to this. We have burned through our fund balance over the last 10 years and could easily burn through our ...

Melora, the MLS might make someone uniquely qualified to represent libraries, but not to run a major association. Our association has experienced fairly significant (almost 20%?) drop in membership in the last 10 years or so. We have an aging membership. We have a overly complicated organizational ...

They spoke to 200 people, but not necessarily asking them to apply. They called me and I gave them a few names and I assume they spoke to those folks. I too support dropping the MLS requirement. ALA faces many of the same challenges other associations face. Our core values are pretty straight forward and I wouldn't hire someone who had problems with them, but they are completely unique to our industry. I would prefer to have a professional association ...

We never have 100% attendance at Council meetings and at least with an online discussion and vote everyone can participate. The issue was fully debated on Council floor and the vote was close (won by 3 votes??). ...

Generally I agree with the MLS requirement for librarians, but boards don't necessarily hire non-MLS folks as a cost cutting measure.  Our IT director, makes more than any other librarian on our staff, aside from the director. The goal is to get a professional to do the job as a professional.  Association ...

The profession has lost one of our great ones. He will long be remembered as ALA's corporate memory. His compassion to others, his familiarity with the bylaws and gentle humor will be greatly missed. Christine Lind Hage
