Wow is right! One question: what point is there to hold a conference where not all eligible participants are welcomed? As much as I would love to see Dubai and to have a reason to visit, I must say that I am concerned about the choice made. Hosting it in a location where not all people are welcomed ...

Sonnet, your idea sounds good if it follows Robert's Rules (I would love to be a know it all about Robert's Rules, but I'm not). And your issue about being passed over was why I called the Point of Order, then I was almost bypassed because I didn't get the unmute button. There needs to be a little longer ...

My only real concern is a better balance of speaking timely on issues. There was at least 1 time (I called Point of Order) that virtual speakers who had yet spoken were skipped while live attendees spoke more than once. I don't have a solution to that. President Wong did a wonderful job trying to balance ...

I didn’t realize there were some negative thoughts on those who did not attend in person. I would loved to have gone as DC was my home for 7 years and I miss it terribly but I was unable to travel for reasons that are no one’s business except for ALA Staff and President Wong, which was the procedure ...

Thank you, Tracie, for the quick response. Is it clear to attendees what to do if there is a serious “situation” that needs immediate attention? I, and I trust leadership, would like to have taken action immediately. Kari R. Mitchell, MLIS Sent from my iPhone Please excuse any typos

Wow. I did not hear this. Thankfully this woman had people come to her rescue. It is inexcusable that security did nothing and I hope ALA EB/Exec. Dir./President demand an investigation. Kari R. Mitchell, MLIS Sent from my iPhonePlease excuse any typos

Karen, that is interesting. I would expect all councilors to 1.) Vote yes or no OR 2.) Abstain. We are there to vote for the Association as a policy making body. That is why I was so worried/upset about the glitches that almost caused me to not be able to vote. With the understanding of technological ...

As a side note, I had to pay $175 for virtual with a discount since I was only attending council meetings. I found that very steep. Kari R. Mitchell, MLIS Sent from my iPhone Please excuse any typos

I too agree with these comments. The reason I voted for the resolution is that it has evolved to something that I felt was against ALA Core Values and not ethical based on what I witnessed my first year as a councilor. I would be in favor of a structured, moderated following all guidelines re: ethics ...

Thank you, Jacquelyn. When I made my comment, I was just guessing on who might feel a conflict of interest. I, in no means, meant that those did have a conflict of interest or were the ones who abstained. Votes are public record. Adrain's clarification of abstaining per Robert's Rules great knowledge ...

Thanks Adrian! I didn't know the "official rules" of Abstaining, but just what I do. I am laughing that Robert's Rules just say "any reason" when it is so detailed on everything else. Again, thanks for looking it up! Kari R. Mitchell, MLIS Sent from my iPhonePlease excuse any typos

I abstain if 1.) I have a conflict in interest 2.) had to step away when voting occurred, and 3.) when I don’t have enough information to make the right decision to vote yes/no. Since I am a councilor at large, my votes are what all ALA members would want/better all ALA members verses chapter councilors/round ...

I agree with Sara's well written response. The word "preferred" allows the pool to be bigger - therefore, a better chance of finding the right person for the position. As a librarian and ALA member, I would like nothing more than someone with an MLIS to lead ALA. But, the skills for librarians are ...
