The IRRT International Librarians' Orientation/Mentoring Committee sent out a call for conference buddies that received great response and now we are ready to welcome requests from international members who would like to have a buddy for the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago. The conference buddy will share their experiences and help you navigate the event. Ultimately, we hope that you become good colleagues and friends. What will your buddy do?
Before the conference, they will plan to…
-
Communicate with you before traveling to the conference to introduce themself and establish a rapport.
-
Share general travel schedule, such as arrival and departure dates.
-
Provide contact information preference for them to use during the conference.
During the conference, they plan to meet with you at least once (or more if your schedule allows and you both agree). Suggested activities might include:
-
Sharing best practices/advice/suggestions for navigating the conference.
-
Having a meal together or meeting for coffee/tea.
-
Inviting you to attend a session with them.
-
Visiting the exhibits together.
-
Attending a networking/social event together.
If you will attend ALA Annual in person and would like to have a conference buddy, please complete the form by May 31, 2023. You will be notified on June 9, 2023, and provided the name and contact information of the buddy with whom you are paired.
