  • 1.  Workshop Resolutions Here [let's try something new!]

    Hello Councilors!

I'd like to propose we try something a bit different in preparation for LibLearnX 2024 : let's try to bring back the spirit of Council Forum while hopefully avoiding some of its pitfalls.

If you have a resolution you're working on or have a completed resolution that you're going to move at the LLX meetings, please post it here. We can talk about it, offer suggestions, shop it around to committees if needed, get advice, etc. It's my hope that using this asynchronous forum in the weeks leading up to Council convening and voting can increase our awareness of what's coming up while giving as many people as possible an opportunity to participate in the forum environment.

A big thank you to Ray Pun for already posting the memorial resolution for Candy Morgan!

Remember: you can't fight in here, this is the War Room!

    Hello all,

Thank you, Gina, for holding space for us here!  I have another memorial resolution in draft mode. This memorial resolution honors Betty-Carol Sellen, a remarkable leader and advocate for sex and racial equality in the field and in ALA who passed away in November. My condolences to those who knew and collaborated with Betty-Carol.

My thanks to Mandy Nasr for reviewing and seconding this memorial resolution. This resolution draft has been shared with a few folks who are not on council to review.

If you would like to review and add your name as a seconder to this memorial resolution, please see this google doc. We will send it to the ALA Resolutions Committee on January 12th.

    Thank you for your consideration,

    Ray Pun

    CALA Councilor

Thanks for starting this discussion Gina!

I see in the council documents that there's a placeholder memorial resolution for Dr. Hwa-Wei Lee. Does anyone know who is working on that? I'm in Athens, Ohio where Dr. Lee was dean of libraries at Ohio University, and the current interim dean has been working on a resolution as well, so we'd like to coordinate with whoever else is working on this. Please PM me if you're working on this!

Hi Nicholas, thanks for bringing that up. That memorial resolution also came from me and a few folks in CALA. Dr. Lee played a major role in launching CALA 50 years ago and served as President. Here's the resolution: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VuWyZC5KU5qlbhBE30zNvghk_v0-rszQiL7Ehg6ZNhc/edit

    Thanks,
