    Hello,

    In looking ahead to next week's Governance Institute, I am wondering about timing. The institute starts at 8:00am. Conference registration opens at 8:00 and the shuttle begins running at 8:00am. Will I just need to be late to the institute? I am coming in late night Thursday and so will need to get to registration first in the morning to get my badge. Additionally, with the shuttle only beginning at 8:00am, I would need to walk or taxi to be there before 8. Any chance there is breakfast or a soft opening at 8:00 of the institute to accommodate for this scheduling issue? 

    Apologies if Council Connect is not the place to ask this question.

    Hi Michele, 
    This is a great place to ask (sorry I don't have an official answer for any of the questions).

    Thank you for asking, too; my regular calendar is Eastern Time and currently shows the meeting starts at 9am (Eastern). 
    I forgot I'd have to convert this into 8am Central Time...

    Time is a construct and I still haven't recovered from being locked away for over a year a year-ish ago.

    As a speaker, I was given this 'draft' schedule (in part):
    • 8:00 – 8:45am:            Continental Breakfast/Networking, Introduction/Welcome, Review Goals of the Institute
      • 8:00-8:15am    Continental Breakfast
      • 8:15-8:45am    Welcome Remarks from Lessa, TOLD chair, and Council Orientation chair

    I'm in the same boat. I won't be able to get my badge before 8 am on Friday and I'm the Council Orientation Chair identified above. Either I'll be speaking without a badge or a little rushed getting breakfast.

    You absolutely will. Security I'm sure will be checking everyone for badges and masks. They were very thorough in DC.

    Dear Councilors,
    At the start of the ALA Governance Institute from 8-8:30am, we will provide a light breakfast and an opportunity for attendees to network. This would allow some time for attendees to get to the convention center. The first session is scheduled to begin at 8:45am.

    Is there any reason pre-registered Council members couldn't pick up their badges at the Governance Institute that morning, if we're really going to be that thorough in checking? We would all have the email confirming our registration. 

    It sounds like we're asking members who don't have the option to forgo using the shuttles, miss breakfast and networking, and potentially miss opening remarks in order to have their badges. That's a lot of barriers.

    Registration will be open to AGI attendees at 7:30 am on Friday. Registration is also open on Thursday afternoon from 1:00-5:00 pm.
    Please note that the ALA Governance Institute is for in-person attendees, there will not be a hybrid/virtual option.

    The ALA Governance Institute is in the convention center. I know originally it was scheduled in the hotel, but this event has been moved from the hotel to the convention center due to our space requirements.
