Dear ALA-APA Council Colleague:

On June 20, 2023 the ALA-APA Board of Directors,

APPROVED to amend the ALA-APA Bylaws via a general revision to be completed by the ALA-APA Bylaws Committee in consultation with the ALA Governance Office staff, the ALA general counsel, and the ALA parliamentarian by February 1, 2024, with the proviso that the revised ALA-APA Bylaws drafts will be shared with the ALA-APA Council and [via] the ALA Council Connect space at appropriate intervals and a final draft shared at least 30 days prior to a vote in accordance with ALA-APA Bylaws Article 11.

On January, 17, 2024, the ALA-APA Board of Directors, at the request of the ALA-APA Bylaws Committee,

EXTENDS the ALA-APA Bylaws work to be completed by Annual Conference 2024.

On behalf of the ALA-APA Bylaws Committee, I am happy to report that the General Revision of the ALA-APA Bylaws is now complete.

We invite you to join us at either or both of two Feedback Listening Sessions we have scheduled to review the DRAFT General Revision. The sessions will take place on May 3 and May 17 from 12:30-1:30pm Central. To register for these events, please click here. 

In preparation for these sessions, we are happy to share an annotated DRAFT of the General Revision.   You may access the DRAFT here. For comparison purposes, the current ALA-APA Bylaws can be found here. 

High-level annotations have been provided for substantive revisions. Editorial and other minor revisions have not been annotated as the intent of the language has not been changed.

Following the Feedback Listening Sessions, the ALA-APA Bylaws Committee will convene to consider feedback we have received and prepare a final DRAFT General Revision of the ALA-APA Bylaws for discussion and approval at the ALA-APA Council Meeting on Saturday, June 29 during the 2024 Annual Conference. We have created a feedback form for your use to share your comments and suggestions with the committee prior to the Feedback Listening Sessions, if you wish.
