Hi, Martin. Getting ready to board flight in Seattle
and arrive at JFK after midnight. I will respond to
a few of your questions and then follow up on
the others.
First, let me emphasize that whichever way Council
votes, the search committee will continue to
recruit aggressively individuals who have the
accredited Master’s Degree. It is the preference.
The preferred Master’s Degree would enable us
to also consider strong candidates who have extensive
experience in library related organizations or in
Association work.
The search firm was in touch with over 200
individuals to discuss the position, and to
receive nominations. The pool throughout the
process was consistently diverse in terms of
library background, geography, gender, and
race/ethnicity.
The search committee reviewed 17 applications.
Seven were invited for first round interviews, but
two withdrew. In the second round, four were
interviewed.
Given our experience in the first round of the
search, the position announcement is being
reviewed to make sure it accurately describes
the responsibilities of the position and our
expectations.
The search committee was in agreement on the
candidate pool and on the position description.
There was no “hung jury” at any point in the
process.
Hope this is helpful. Jim.
