    Posted Jul 05, 2022 04:41 PM

    Dear ACRL Leaders,

Please see the message below from ALA regarding the ALA Connect Code of Conduct:

On August 1, 2022, an updated Online Code of Conduct Will be released.

The Online Code of Conduct was designed to build and sustain an open, inclusive, and collaborative experience for participants on all online platforms used by ALA and replaced the many policies/guidelines that were previously used across the organization.

You can read more about the process for the creation of the Online Code of Conduct in Executive Board Document 12.46.

The Online Code of Conduct is living document that is intended to be improved upon by the guidance of the ALA Code of Conduct Committee. The updates to the Online Code of Conduct reflects this input and the work of the established Code of Conduct Committee.

Users of Connect can expect the following changes due to the updates in the Online Code of Conduct:

    •            Improvement to the language and the framework that sustains a successful, respectful, and safe community. Members can expect to see more affirming language in Code of Conduct.

    •            The promotion of paid products, events, or services not initiated by the American Library Association will be prohibited.

The establishment of a single community where ALA members can share job postings. Job postings will no longer be allowed in any community space besides the ALA Jobs Community. This will be an opt-in community, ensuring a streamline process to deliver these opportunities to user who desire this content. ALA Members that are interested in joining this community can type "ALA Jobs" in the search bar on August 1, 2022, to join the community.

On August 1, 2022, please log in to ALA Connect, where you'll be prompted to review and agree to the new Online Code of Conduct: https://connect.ala.org/codeofconduct

    •            All ALA Connect users must agree to the new Code of Conduct before posting on the platform.

    •            Users of other sites/channels will not be prompted to agree; however, activity on those channels will now be governed by this updated Online Code of Conduct rather than any older guidelines that were previously used.

If you have any questions about the new Online Code of Conduct, please feel free to reach out to me.
