The University of Oregon Libraries is seeking its next Associate Vice Provost and University Librarian for Research, Instruction, and Access Services (AVPUL-RIAS) to move forward an ambitious agenda. After more than a year of pandemic-affected operations, we are rebuilding personnel ranks and rethinking the way we work and serve our community. The successful candidate will join a new executive team at a time when UO Libraries is developing a fresh vision and an innovative strategic design for a sustainable, global, and just information future.

The AVPUL-RIAS will collaborate with the Libraries Leadership Team and Administrative Team to achieve overall organizational goals and build a strong culture of engagement and shared decision making. The AVPUL-RIAS will be responsible for leadership and administration of the Research, Instruction, and Access Services division, which includes six major areas:

    • Research and Instructional Services
    • Data Services
    • Undergraduate Engagement
    • eLearning and Open Educational Resources
    • Access Services
    • Five Branch Libraries including Design, Mathematics, the Portland Library and Learning Commons, the Price Science Commons and Research Library, and the Rippey Library (Oregon Institution of Marine Biology)

The successful candidate will shape organizational structure by developing connections between these areas to facilitate interdepartmental communication, synergies, training, and operational activities. In addition, the successful candidate will build and sustain strong relationships with external campus stakeholders whose work intersects with RIAS units to develop complementary and impactful partnerships.

As a member of the Libraries' senior leadership team, the AVPUL-RIAS helps implement the Libraries' strategic plan, support institutional goals and build a strong culture of engagement and shared decision making. Further, they participate in key planning, budget, operations, and personnel decisions for the organization and lead an evolving portfolio of projects and priorities in a collaborative, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment.

The most competitive candidates will be able to discuss approaches to and experience with change management, effective and transparent communication, fostering innovation, developing high-trust, high-performing teams, and a commitment to organizational equity and inclusion. The new AVPUL-RIAS can look forward to working in an environment where new ideas are rewarded, growth is expected, and success is shared.

If you've been waiting to fulfill your potential as a leader in research, instruction, and access services, consider joining UO Libraries.
