  • 1.  Tools for Compiling Data in IL Assessment

    Posted Feb 06, 2023 10:16 AM

Hello, I'm new to coordinating IL assessment. We are trying to streamline our data reporting within the library. I'm curious what other institutions use for gathering their assessment and other librarian-patron (non-reference) interactions, such as orientations, tours, and other presentations. Most software seems to enable export to CSV files. I've been told that there are better options than using Excel. We use several SpringShare products so I'm curious about what LibInsight is capable of and interested to hear what tools and workflow others have developed.

    Thanks!

Hi Erin, our instruction group uses LibWizard forms to collect their stats, and we also use LibInsight. We did not purchase LibInsight until after they were already using LibWizard, but both are good options for collecting IL stats. You can completely customize the forms in both and just have everyone enter their own stats. In terms of which product would be better, it probably depends a bit on your institutional context. Which other features would be most useful to your library? Are you looking for an option to create forms/surveys/tutorials (LibWizard)? Are you looking to collect/analyze other types of statistics (LibInsight)? LibInsight has more built-in analysis options, but LibWizard will still provide you with some basic stats, and like you said can export out for analysis elsewhere.

I would be happy to talk more about how we have forms set up if you'd like.

Thanks to those of you who have responded. Your answers lead me to believe I'm on the right track. I made a form in LibWizard and will probably ask for a quote for LibInsight. I want to get things set up correctly so that they're sustainable and won't have to be transferred to another platform anytime soon.

I might have more questions at some point setting them up and extracting data.

    Thanks!
