As Jenny Carlos and Amira Walker conclude their 3-year library residency at Washington and Lee University, they will reflect on the positive impact different mentors had during their residency. They will use NCFDD's Mentor Map worksheet to identify the different types of mentors throughout their residency. They will also reflect on how the same mentors played different roles for each of them.
About the Presenters:
Jenny Carlos is an Assistant Professor and Research and Instruction Librarian at Leyburn Library at Washington and Lee University. She serves as the liaison to the Williams School of Commerce, supporting programs in business, economics, and related fields. Her work focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence into research and teaching, and she serves on the university's AI Advisory Board. Prior to her work in academic libraries, she worked in K–12 education as a middle and high school librarian. In her free time, she enjoys thrifting, exploring new coffee shops, and visiting used bookstores.
Amira Walker is an Assistant Professor and the Instruction and Outreach Archivist for Washington and Lee University. She manages the Special Collections and Archives instruction program, collaborating with faculty and library colleagues to integrate primary source materials into the classroom. Her research interests involve the care and keeping of Black memories, including Black archival practices within institutions and communities.
