Study Invitation: Solo Librarians & Perceptions of Leadership Identity

  • 1.  Study Invitation: Solo Librarians & Perceptions of Leadership Identity

    Posted 6 hours ago

Are you a solo or semi-solo librarian? If so, you are invited to participate in a research study hosted by Creighton University exploring how solo academic librarians perceive leadership and their own identities as leaders. The purpose of this research is to examine how leadership identity is understood and enacted in professional contexts where hierarchical authority and library peer collaboration are limited or absent. The findings of this study will contribute to a dissertation in practice and may be presented as conference proceedings and/or peer-reviewed articles.

If you decide to participate in this study, you will complete an online survey. This survey should take approximately 15 minutes and will ask you to identify your name and institution only for identifying duplicate institutions. You will be asked to identify your interest in a follow-up interview.

If you decide to participate in an interview, you will be contacted in a follow-up email to schedule a time for an approximate one-hour interview held over Zoom and asked to share basic materials related to your position. Only the audio portion of the recordings will be kept as part of data collection. These recordings will be deleted upon completion of data analysis. Your participation in this research study is completely voluntary. You do not have to participate. You may quit at any time without any penalty to you. All information collected via the survey is for the sole purpose of this research study. Participants must:

    • Be 19 years or older
    • Be currently employed in a solo librarian position in a U.S. academic institution
    • And have held the position for at least one academic year. Individuals in temporary, part-time, or paraprofessional roles are not eligible.
    • Hold a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
