  • 1.  Seeking Recommendations for Library Space/Occupancy Monitoring Tools

    Posted Oct 30, 2023 09:53 AM

    Hello All!

I'm searching for a tool to keep tabs on our library's physical space usage. I stumbled upon Sensource, which looks promising: Sensource Library Space Monitoring.

But before presenting a product to my administration, I'd love to hear from any of you who've been down this road. Have you used tools like Sensource to monitor library space occupancy? Any thoughts, recommendations, or cautionary tales you'd like to share?

Any advice would be super helpful.
    Looking forward to your insights!

    Hi Trina and all,

Our library, J. Murrey Atkins Library at UNC Charlotte, uses Sensource to monitor library foot traffic in and out of our building as well as to track the number of individuals coming up to our various service points in the library. The sensors and data collection have been reliable, though the system does need someone to monitor it, as sometimes the sensors go down and need to be serviced. Our IT department monitors the system to make sure things work as they should.

As the assessment librarian, I use the data, which filters into a MySQL database, to monitor foot traffic which we visualize using a series of Tableau Dashboards. Here is one example:

Good luck with your project! Feel free to reach out with any questions.

    Sincerely,
    Becky
