  • 1.  Rookie question about searching for best practices

    Posted Mar 15, 2022 01:37 PM
    Hi all,
If I'm helping someone with a research question that's interested in identifying best practices rather than evaluating a particular intervention, how would I represent that in my main concepts that I'm searching for?

Here's the research question: What are the best practices for diagnosing postpartum depression in healthcare settings?
How do I represent the concept of "best practices" in my search terms?

Thanks for your help with this!
    Sarah

It's really tough and I often find these types of questions in nursing topics. How many articles do you think are going to formally say "best practices" in the title or abstract? Probably very few, so to that end, I would search on diagnosis and postpartum depression (maybe settings).  The literature that comes up should be the guiding evidence: are there guidelines, protocols, or clinical practice guidelines for dx PPD? If it's truly evidence synthesis, then they'll need to look at the results and determine best practices based on the evidence. You have my sympathy and empathy.
