    [Please excuse cross postings.]

    Dear ACRL Colleagues,

On behalf of the ACRL Task Force for updating the Proficiencies Assessment in Academic Libraries, I am thrilled to invite you to review and respond to the first full draft of the updated proficiencies (Draft 1: Proficiencies for Assessment in Academic Libraries (3/21/23) (PDF)). This new draft is an update to the current ACRL Proficiencies for Assessment Librarians and Coordinators to ensure social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion are centered in library assessment work. To update the proficiencies, a task force composed of members from the ACRL Value of Academic Libraries and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committees was formed just over a year ago. Task force activities to date have included conducting an environmental/literature review, hosting focus groups, and drafting an updated set of proficiencies through an iterative process.

Please share your feedback via this online feedback form by March 31, 2023 (https://tinyurl.com/proficienciesdraft1feedback). All content that is included in the draft proficiencies is included in the online form. You may also read the draft proficiencies in their consolidated form via this Draft 1 PDF.

After the close of the first review period on March 31st, the writing team will review and incorporate feedback before the second review period which will take place from April 15-30, as outlined in our project timeline.

The feedback form includes questions relating to the Preamble, 5 proficiencies sections, and a self-check section. Each section of the form asks you to respond to the following open-ended questions.

    • Clarifications Needed: Is there anything that you think could be worded more clearly? If so, please provide as much detail as possible to help us identify the location in the preamble.

    • What's Missing?: Is there anything missing from this section that you think should be included? If so, please describe.

    • Relevance: Is there anything in this section that is either (1) irrelevant and could be deleted, (2) addressed in another section and could be deleted from this section, or (3) would be better addressed in a different section? If so, please provide as much detail as possible to help us identify the location in the document.

    • Additional Comments

NOTE: Acknowledgements of task force members and other contributors, as well as the extensive bibliography and suggested readings will be included in the final proficiencies document, though are still forthcoming.

    Key Information

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Sincerely,
