Dear Access Services Interest Group Members,

I am a former librarian and current PhD student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Hawai'i. I am conducting a research study exploring the experiences of library professionals with online chat services, and I am reaching out to invite your participation.

    What is the study about?

The purpose of this research is to better understand how library professionals perceive and experience the use of online chat services, including their impact on labor, professional identity, emotional work, and interactions with users.

    Who is eligible to participate?

If you are a library professional who currently provides, or has provided, online chat services, I would greatly appreciate your participation.

    What will participation involve?

Participation in this study involves completing a short, online survey, which will take approximately 15-25 minutes. The survey includes open-ended questions about your experiences. Additionally, at the end of the survey, you will have the option to provide your email address if you are interested in participating in a brief follow-up interview.

    How can you participate?

    Why should you participate?

Your insights and experiences will be invaluable in helping to better understand the role of chat services in libraries and how they may affect library professionals. The results of this research may provide a basis for further discussions about the evolving nature of library work and support improvements in library service delivery.

    Questions?

If you have any questions about this study or your participation, please feel free to contact me at lailab@hawaii.edu.

Thank you very much for considering participating in this study.

    Sincerely,

    Laila Brown
