    Dear Colleagues,

Please join us for Melissa N. Mallon's presentation We're Still Tired: A Journey Toward Authenticity and Away from Burnout.

    Date: Tuesday, November 14, 2023,

    Time: 2 pm Eastern

    Description:

As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, many professionals are taking stock of their careers; interrogating priorities, reexamining work-life balance, and even making job changes. Many library leaders, in particular, may find themselves pondering their priorities and what it means to be a leader in a post-pandemic libraries. In this discussion forum, Melissa Mallon (Associate University Librarian for Teaching & Learning at Vanderbilt University) will reflect on the implications of burnout and exhaustion for academic library managers leading teams through times of chaos and instability, themes she explored in the essay "On Authenticity, Exhaustion, and Finding a Spark," published in the Journal of Library Administration (26 Sept 2022). Mallon will account her experience with burnout brought on by the pandemic, her strategies for acknowledging it, and what it means to be an authentic leader. Attendees will have the opportunity for reflecting on their own their own journeys and how we can support one another in the quest for balance, authenticity, and professional optimism.
