  • 1.  Reminder (deadline 9/30): Journal of Graduate Librarianship service opportunities!

    Posted Sep 19, 2022 11:09 AM

    Hello!

About a month ago we announced the launch of the Journal of Graduate Librarianship (peer reviewed, open access, no author-facing fees, published by East Tennessee State University). This message is just a reminder that the deadline for applications to join JGL as Communications Coordinator, editorial board member, or peer reviewer is approaching: all applications are due by September 30. Please send them to me at jcirasella@gc.cuny.edu.

Please see below for the full announcement and call for applications.

    Thank you,
    Jill Cirasella (JGL Managing Editor)

    ---

    Dear Colleagues,

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Journal of Graduate Librarianship, the first peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated exclusively to matters pertaining to graduate librarianship! JGL is open access and charges no author-facing fees. Full information about JGL and its goals and policies are available on the journal website.

JGL will begin accepting submissions in the near future, but first we're building the journal's team. Are you interested in being our Communications Coordinator, or in joining us as an editorial board member or peer reviewer? All of these volunteer positions will make a significant contribution to the field of graduate librarianship. See below for more information about each role.

Questions? Please don't hesitate to contact the editors:

    Call for Communications Coordinator

The Communications Coordinator will be an essential member of JGL's editorial team and instrumental in the journal's growth and success, with the following responsibilities:
    • Develop and implement a communications plan for the journal.
    • Write and design promotional materials, including social media posts and messages to email lists.
    • Create, maintain, and monitor the journal's social media accounts.
    • Solicit, collect, and help compile community suggestions and contributions (e.g., contributions to the journal's "Practitioner Panel" section, which will feature brief comments from numerous librarians in response to a prompt).
    • Communicate with the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor on a regular basis.
    • Attend virtual editorial board meetings, to be held several times per year.

We are looking for someone with excellent written communication skills in English, enthusiasm for connecting with graduate librarians on social media and elsewhere, experience with graduate librarianship, and the ability to devote 1 to 2 hours per week to journal activities. To apply, please submit a current CV and a letter explaining your interest in and qualifications for the position, including your proficiency with relevant social media tools. Send materials to Managing Editor Jill Cirasella at jcirasella@gc.cuny.edu by September 30, 2022.

    Call for Editorial Board Members

The editors seek practicing graduate librarians to join them on JGL's editorial board, which will be the journal's governing body. Editorial board members will serve one-year terms, with up to two renewals possible (for a maximum of three years), and have the following responsibilities:

    • Participate in virtual editorial board meetings, to be held several times per year.
    • Help refine journal goals, policies, and processes.
    • Provide informed advice and sound guidance to the editors as required, particularly when complex or contentious matters arise.
    • Participate in peer review of submitted manuscripts (1-2 reviews per year).
    • Promote the journal in their professional networks and recruit potential authors.

We are looking for individuals with significant experience with graduate librarianship, a record of scholarly publishing and professional service, and a desire to engage deeply with journal policy and processes, as well as a familiarity with APA style. To apply, please submit a current CV and a letter explaining your interest in and qualifications for serving on the editorial board, highlighting any specific skills, subject knowledge, unique experience, and/or underrepresented perspectives you would bring to the board. Send materials to Managing Editor Jill Cirasella at jcirasella@gc.cuny.edu by September 30, 2022.

    Call for Peer Reviewers

JGL also needs to build its roster of peer reviewers! The editors seek academic librarians who work in graduate contexts to provide thoughtful, constructive peer reviews of manuscripts. To apply, please submit a current CV and a letter of interest describing your level of graduate engagement, area(s) of expertise, previous experience providing or receiving peer review, availability to perform up to two reviews per year, and familiarity with APA style. Send materials to Managing Editor Jill Cirasella at jcirasella@gc.cuny.edu by September 30, 2022.
