It is ACRL volunteer season! In the coming weeks you may be thinking about how you can help out and where to put your valuable time. To aid in your considerations the ANSS Membership Committee reached out to folks to learn more about what it is like to serve on an ANSS supporting committee.
Today I am happy to share some information (in Question & Answer format) about the ANSS Publications Committee.
Q. What do you like best about this volunteer opportunity? What do you find most rewarding?
A. I like that we are responsible for sharing news between the various facets of ANSS and sometimes, as in the case of our social media, ACRL more broadly. I was the social media manager for several years before becoming chair.
Q. What type of work is involved in serving on this committee?
A. We produce the ANSS newsletter, Currents, so there are opportunities for editing and proofreading. We also manage the ANSS website and social media accounts.
Q. How much time do you typically spend on committee work?
A. Different roles take different amounts of work - as chair, I probably spend an hour or two a month on committee work, while someone like an editor would work much more, but at specific times of the year. It's easy to tailor your role to your availability.
Q. Is there anything else you would like to share about this committee with future volunteers?
A. We are specifically looking for a future new editor or co-editors of our newsletter.
If there is more you would like to know about serving on the Publications Committee contact the committee chair, Jennifer Joe at Jennifer.Joe@utoledo.edu.
Earlier this week we heard from the Nominating Committee. Look for similar posts highlighting other ANSS committees in the coming weeks. And remember to fill out the ACRL volunteer form by February 28th!
