Project Vend -- Anthropic allows AI to run a small shop and hilarity (?) ensues

True story bro. Claude, Anthropic's AI system, hallucinated it was human and called security on other employees. The next day it used April Fool's as a way to backtrack and gaslight the folks at Anthropic.

The story is much larger than that, and you can read the entirety yourself on Anthropic's blog. Highly recommended.

I'm not anti-AI in any way, but this sentence chilled me: "It's worth remembering that the AI won't have to be perfect to be adopted; it will just have to be competitive with human performance at a lower cost in some cases."

What I read it as: "We've dealt with how awful phone trees, self-checks, and ATMs are. Consumers will put up with this too, eventually."

    The future is now.
