Hitting a major wall and wondering if anyone has experience with this --

A faculty member on our campus is asking about the legality of students uploading paywalled research articles they access through the library to Generative AI tools.

My knee jerk reaction is that it depends. What tool? What is being done with the work (i.e., is the end result transformative)? That said, I see what the faculty member is going for. They are essentially looking for a sort of blanket statement, endorsed by us, that it is not good practice.

Anyone have thoughts or links to policies they have in place? Still digging around the web but not finding much yet.

    Thank you!

    Ryan S.

I want to add that Carol Howe shared a previous discussion in this interest group that is related to the topic. I completely missed these and will definitely be diving into them more fully soon -- thank you, Carol!
