  • 1.  New incoming convener and upcoming session where we will peer reviewing a search strategy using PRESS

ACRL Evidence Synthesis Methods Interest Group (ESMIG),

We're thrilled to announce that Erica DeFrain is joining as incoming convener for ESMIG. Our leadership structure is incoming convener convener past convener. Terms start on July 1. If you're interested in being a convener in the future, let us know by Spring 2025.

    ESMIG current leadership

Past convener: Aimee Sgourakis Jenkins, University of Pittsburgh

Convener: Amy Riegelman, University of Minnesota

Incoming convener: Erica DeFrain, University of Nebraska–Lincoln

The next ESMIG event will be via Zoom on July 23, 2024 at 1pm ET. During this session, we'll be using Peer Review of Electronic Search Strategies (PRESS) to critique a published search. While PRESS is designed for critique of search strategies during the search strategy development process, we will be using it unconventionally to critique the search methods in the following (open access) article. If you're curious about using PRESS to improve your own searches, this session could help you understand what this process entails.

These are the PRESS materials that we'll be using during the meeting to do a live, collaborative peer review of electronic search strategies.

Thanks to everyone who was able to attend our July 23 meeting where we had a working session on using the Peer Review of Electronic Search Strategies (PRESS) guidelines

If you're interested in receiving feedback on your search strategies, you are welcome to join the PRESSforum, "a peer review portal developed for professional librarians directly involved in designing and executing search strategies for systematic reviews and health technology assessments."

Please note: membership in PRESSforum is limited to professional librarians with experience in designing search strategies for systematic reviews and reciprocity is strongly preferred (i.e. we ask that members perform a peer review request for another PRESSforum member when submitting a peer review request). All search strategies submitted must be designed by the librarian submitting the strategy. We do not have the resources to offer peer review of third-party search strategies or strategies designed by non-librarians.

To join the forum, submit the following information to  https://pressforum.pbworks.com/w/request-access:

    • Your professional email address and signature line
    • Indicate your current level of experience in designing systematic review search strategies
    • If currently taking a seminar/course in which PRESS was mentioned, please provide the name of the instructor

Once your membership has been approved, you will receive instructions on how to use the forum to submit and review searches.

If you have any questions about PRESSforum, please send them to https://pressforum.pbworks.com/w/contact-owner.

    Erica
