    Good morning,

The African American Studies Librarian Interest Group (AASLIG) invites you to attend our upcoming meeting during the 2026 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago. This session will feature an update on the work of AASLIG and the African American Subject Funnel Project, which continues to advocate for the creation and revision of Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) that more accurately represent African American history, culture, and experiences. The presentation will highlight recent proposals, accomplishments, and opportunities for participation in this important work.

In addition, Kristen Joy Owens will present on her forthcoming article, "Collecting and Collectivity: Black Bibliography and the Study of Black Visual and Material Culture," currently under review with Art Documentation, the official journal of the Art Libraries Society of North America. Her presentation will explore the intersections of Black bibliography, collecting practices, and the study of Black visual and material culture.

    Presenters include:

    • Deseree Stukes, AASLIG Convener, Software Quality Assurance Specialist, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
    • Chereeka Garner, Subject Chair for the Funnel, Digital Learning and Engagement Librarian, University of Central Florida
    • Kristen Joy Owens, AASLIG Incoming Convener, Librarian for African American and Black Diaspora Studies, New York University
