Libraries are facing budget cuts across the country as institutions and consortia lose funding. At the same time, the costs of materials continue to rise due to increases to subscription renewals and new models of licensing. As history librarians work to stretch smaller budgets to meet the growing costs and patrons' needs for access to resources, the following questions need to be addressed:
• How do we weigh the value of one-time purchases vs. subscription/licensing models to make the most of limited budgets while still providing quality access to primary source materials?
• What are alternative options we can turn to in the wake of reduced state support (consortial agreements, collection initiatives, research, etc.)?
• What are additional collection development strategies we can employ to do the same, or more, with less?
Please register to join us for this discussion! Registration is open to anyone. Membership in ALA, RUSA and the History Section are not required to participate in this discussion. We especially encourage those responsible for managing primary source collections and those involved in selection and acquisition of history resources.
This session will not be recorded, but a link to a virtual discussion board will be shared following the meeting.
