    The Rowan University Library seeks an experienced Education and Information Services Librarian that will join a high-performance Health Sciences Library team at the Stratford N.J. campus of the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM).  RowanSOM will open a second regional campus in Sewell N.J. in the fall of 2022, adding approximately 70 additional medical students to the class of 2026. The School of Osteopathic Medicine enrolls medical students in both traditional or problem-based curriculum cohorts.  The Health Sciences Library offers a wide variety of services, and there are constant demands for library educational support, including the Library as a teaching/mentoring partner in a mandatory 4-year medical scholarship curriculum.

    The Education and Information Services Librarian:

    • Designs instructional programs and materials and coordinates both formal and informal educational sessions for students and faculty in the use of library resources, information gathering, and information management techniques.
    • Utilizes new technologies for teaching various subjects and concepts to students, faculty, and staff, and presents orientations on library resources for various groups on campus or virtually.
    • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of the variety of databases available to the Rowan community.  Understands the differences in content among the databases and how to most effectively search for information on the various licensed resources, as well as and on the web. Offers individual or group searching help to students, faculty and residents doing research. 
    • Performs higher-level health sciences reference tasks including complex literature searches. Provides in-house, virtual, and phone assistance to Rowan affiliates.
    • Creates LibGuides for the Library's website to alert students, faculty and staff to the best resources for different courses in the medical curriculum. Develops Guides on various topics to provide information on seasonal or current health-related areas. Notifies course directors about the LibGuide resources available and encourages their integration into Canvas content. Maintains and updates each LibGuide on a regular basis.
    • Creates topical exhibits for the library based on research into areas of interest to the osteopathic community. When appropriate, requests contributions to the exhibits and/or locates appropriate items to include in the exhibit, including digital and physical content and original items. Arranges for Library display of traveling exhibits. 
    • Provides services and instruction in support of the ACGME's scholarly activity requirements for both residents and faculty in the RowanSOM Graduate Medical Education programs.
    • Serves on University Library committees, task forces, and teams, as well as on relative committees and task forces at RowanSOM. Works with the RowanSOM Admissions Committee; conducting interviews with student applicants and reviewing application content.
    • Engages in scholarly activities such as publication in peer-reviewed resources, presentations at professional meetings, and graduate level teaching in an appropriate level program.
    • Performs other duties and team-based activities as required and at opportunistic moments that expand the Library service agenda.

    Requirements:

    • Master's Degree from an A.L.A. accredited school of information or library science program.
    • Five (5) years of post-master's professional information services experience at an academic medical center, hospital, or health sciences school.
    • Experience with health sciences library educational design, development and delivery of formal and informal instruction in a health sciences context.
    • Development of complex biomedical database searching skill in support of patient care and research. 
    • Emotional intelligence and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic or healthcare setting.
    • Demonstrated scholarly research activity and active participation in professional conferences or library organizations. 
    • Experience with Springhare library productivity tools, such as LibGuides, LibChat, LibWizard, or LibAnswers. 

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Additional master's degree or doctorate in instructional design, information management, or education.
    • Experience with library exhibit programming and/or design.
    • Academy of Health Information Professions (AHIP) current membership
