Tennessee State University is seeking an individual responsible for overseeing the operations of the Avon Williams Library, which is located in downtown Nashville. Responsibilities vary, requiring interpretive judgment, scheduling staff, teaching bibliographic instruction/information literacy classes, and understanding advanced research methodology, and close collaboration with the faculty. The ideal candidate would be a highly innovative individual with proven leadership and management skills to motivate and supervise service-oriented staff and further develop customer-centered practices.QualificationsLeadership and management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills demonstrating ability to facilitate meetings and manage an energetic staff, especially in developing informational guides/resources, and delivery of quality customer service. Plans the development and implementation of public services activities, i.e. information literacy, including assistance to non-traditional students and their ability to access resources and services via the library website. Participates in embedded librarian program and is the Library Liaison to Business Administration and the Accounting and Business Law Departments. Supervises two library faculty and three support staff. Recruits, selects and trains new personnel when needed. Coordinates the continued training and development of staff members. Performs evaluation of staff members and supervises the keeping of usage statistics and the preparation of other reports. Supervises the maintenance/upkeep of the Avon Williams Library. Maintains current knowledge of new developments in the library field. Initiates plans, develops and implements records and report systems and schedules. Manages library's budget. Reports to the Interim Executive Director of Libraries and Media Centers.Supervisory AuthorityDirectly supervises 5 FTE
Must hold a Master's Degree in Library Science, or Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from a graduate library program accredited by the American Library Association, and professional library experience, preferably in an administrative and/or managerial/supervisory capacity in an academic library and 5 years supervisory experience.
