    About the Institute:

The Institute is an innovative, interprofessional graduate school in Boston, MA that prepares health professionals and scientists to advance care for a diverse society through leadership in education, clinical practice, research and community engagement. The Institute has 1,636 enrolled students and offers programs in Genetic Counseling, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Professions Education (MS and PhD), Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, and Rehabilitation Sciences (PhD). The Institute is about to open a new School of Healthcare Leadership, which will add significantly to the Institute's offerings, increase enrollments, amplify the value proposition with the Mass General Brigham (MGB) health system, and build new partnerships locally and nationally.  Founded by Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in 1977, the Institute is an independent institution accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).

The IHP is the only degree-granting affiliate in Mass General Brigham (MGB), the largest private employer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Institute has been recognized multiple times by The Chronicle of Higher Education as a "Great College to Work For", most recently for 2020. A leading health sciences educational institution, MGH Institute provides students with outstanding academic programs, many of which are ranked among the best in the nation.

MGH Institute of Health Professions has announced an organization-wide anti-racism initiative to think boldly about race and bring together all members of the IHP community to address systemic racial injustice as well as oppression more broadly. The plan seeks to create a supportive and inclusive campus environment and better support the diverse communities the school serves. We are excited about this new initiative and are hiring employees who are committed to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion and will contribute to our anti-racism and anti-oppression approach.

    Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Library and Instructional Design, the Assistant Director of Library Services at the Bellack Library is a key member of our three person staff, frequently working collaboratively inside and outside the library in order to offer a broad range of services to our growing community. A particular focus of this position is leading the library's work in supporting evidence-based practice and integrating information literacy instruction into the curricula across the institution. The Assistant Director also heads up many of our outreach efforts, including evaluating their effectiveness. In addition to those two areas, the Assistant Director's work can involve a wide range of library functions including information services, access services, technical services, and outreach in a busy and service-oriented academic health sciences library. The Assistant Director also supervises the library's graduate student workers who are a key element of our reference services, student engagement activities, and special project work. In addition, the Assistant Director participates in drafting, implementing, and evaluating policies, procedures, and outcomes for library services with the goal of ensuring quality service to all library users. Justice, equity, diversity and inclusion principles and User Experience Design (UX) are fundamental to these efforts.  In collaboration with colleagues, the Assistant Director sets and contributes to meeting departmental and institutional goals.

The Bellack Library is a highly regarded part of the MGH Institute of Health Professions, actively supporting faculty and student scholarship and evidence-based practice across all three schools and the programs therein. Bellack librarians work as partners with faculty, staff, administration and students in these efforts. The Bellack Library is a service-oriented organization, focused on supporting the whole student and the whole institution, as a result, we interpret "library work" quite broadly. Library staff are frequently called on to participate in committees across the institution including new program planning, strategic planning, support for teaching and learning, and student engagement and wellness. The Library and Instructional Design Team is currently participating in institution-wide anti-oppression initiatives. We are working with our Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion to educate ourselves, examine our practices, and begin the work of an anti-oppression audit. The Assistant Director of Library Services will have an important role to play in this work. The innovative spirit of our growing institution provides many rich opportunities for collaborations, partnerships, and professional development, and we look forward to seeing applications that are enthusiastic about joining our team and contributing to the work we do.

Opportunity for hybrid on-site/remote work is available.
