Health Misinformation Library Toolkit

  • 1.  Health Misinformation Library Toolkit

    Posted Feb 22, 2023 02:42 PM

I'm part of a group of academic and public librarians in San Diego, CA who have created a website to help our community Find Reliable Health Information and we have just released a toolkit  (described below) to help other libraries engage with their communities.

I've also used the fact sheets when teaching about health misinformation to undergraduates.

All of the fact sheets, messaging, graphics, and videos are open access and free for everyone to use.

    Enjoy,

    HEALTH INFORMATION CAMPAIGN OBJECTIVES:

Through online engagement with community members, the campaign will:

    (1) raise awareness of health misinformation,

    (2) share techniques for evaluating health claims and finding reliable sources, and

    (3) provide guidance on how to respond to misinformation ethically and responsibly.

     EDUCATIONAL CONTENT:

The toolkit provides educational content to share on libraries' online and social media channels. It offers:

     KEY CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES:

    • Activity 1: Share the fact sheets with community members. You have a choice in the ways to share the fact sheets.
    • Activity 2: Encourage community members to read the fact sheets through promotions on your library's communication channels. Choose from sample messaging or videos to post on your website, newsletters, blogs, or social media accounts.

     KEY TOOLKIT FEATURES:

    • Customizable content: Make a version of the educational content to fit your community with our Canva design templates.
    • Share and adapt: We encourage your library to creatively share, revise, and build upon the content in this toolkit.
    • Flyers: Print a one-page summary version of the fact sheets to display or distribute.
    • General audience: The educational content is written for community members and is suitable for sharing by public, academic, and school libraries.
