Getting Citation metadata and abstract from Gale

  • 1.  Getting Citation metadata and abstract from Gale

    Hi!

I was wondering if anybody has used a Gale database for an EBS project?  We have a group of grad students who are insisting on using Gale Academic OneFile.

The problem is there is no way to export citations with abstracts.
Using the Zotero button does not download the abstract.
Using their RIS button (within individual records) does not download the abstract.
Using Zotero to look up DOIs does not download the abstract.
Downloading the individual PDF from within individual record does produce a real publisher's pdf when available.  When this  pdf is copied into Zotero, the abstract shows up with the other metadata.  If the record is abstract only, when the PDF is copied into Zotero, the abstract does not show up.

Using their download function results in individual text files with whatever text is in the individual record.

Does anybody have/know of a script that extracts the metadata including abstract from these individual text files?
Our programming skills are not quite good enough to do this quickly, but we could slog through it if necessary.

Does anybody know of a way to extract the citation/abstract metadata directly from the Gale interface?

    Thanks,
    --Christina
