    Hello-

San Francisco Public Library's (SFPL's) Jail and Reentry Services department is creating a virtual training series on library services for incarcerated patrons and people in the process of reentry. This is part of our "Expanding Information Access for Incarcerated People" project, generously funded by the Mellon Foundation.

Today, we have released a new video likely of interest to members of this list.

The "Discussing Library Services for Incarceration Patrons in the LIS Classroom" training includes broad considerations for instructors, as well as practical resources and examples from syllabi used in LIS courses. The video is opened by Darius Coleman, a formerly incarcerated library patron and current author. The content of the video includes presentations by Shawn(ta) Smith-Cruz, Melissa Villa-Nicholas, and Miriam Sweeney. All three LIS instructors offer advice and tools for facilitating discussions about library services for incarcerated people in LIS classrooms.

This training is freely available online on San Francisco Public Library's YouTube channel at

Additional trainings in the series are available on the SFPL website at

An overview of the grant work is available at

If you'd like to follow additional grant developments, including the forthcoming release of a training on digital literacy and incarceration, please sign up for the grant newsletter at

Thank you for all of the important work that you do preparing future librarians and information professionals! I hope these resources are of use to you and your students.

    All Best,

    Jeanie Austin (pronouns: they/them/their)
